Please see below the instructions for the optional math summer enrichment program. Those students who choose not to participate during the summer for various reasons will still have the option to complete the assignment during the first week of school should they choose to. The secondary summer math will be due Friday, August 16th. This is the Friday of the first week of school. This is not new material, but a review of what students learned in their math classes during the 2023-2024 school year.
For the first year, completion of summer math material will be optional but will be rewarded with 10 points of extra credit on the first major math test grade AND students will be allowed to wear jeans and a school polo the first two weeks of school.
We plan to show our CCA family the utility of IXL and how, through this tool, we can maximize classroom time in the new school year with students learning new material rather than spending weeks on end playing catch up.
Ultimately, we hope to transition to this becoming mandatory in the summer of 2025 for the 2025-26 school year.
For the IXL Math Summer Boost Program, students do the following:
1. Sign-in to your IXL account.
2. Go to the Learning tab, then Skill Plans.
3. Select “School Spotlight” from the Skill Plan drop-down menu.
4. Hover over the Summer Boost Icon and you will see levels spotlighted by the school IXL administrator.
5. Begin working on the Summer Boost Program for the fall class you will be taking.
6. NOTE: Students completing Alg 1 in 23/24 will take the Geometry Summer Boost.
7. NOTE: Students who completed Alg 2 and still need to have Geometry will complete Geometry Summer Boost.
8. NOTE: Students entering PreAlgebra take the 8th grade Summer Boost.
9. If your Summer Boost includes material not covered in your previous class, you can review the lesson and video accompanying that skill and do your best. Your new teacher will be sure to cover these items when school starts.
